Homework is usually given Monday-Thursday in science and is designed to take between 15-30 minutes. Occasionally you may be given an online assignment for you to complete over the weekend.
Science Honors homework for the week of August 12-16, 2013
Setting up your Interactive Science Notebook
This week you will be getting your Interactive Science Notebook ready for use.
Please carefully follow the directions below to complete your homework for this week.
Monday, August 12-Tonight you will label each page of your notebook with a number.
Directions: You will number the pages from 1-140. This means you must be very careful not to skip any pages or repeat
any numbers. YOU MUST NEVER TEAR OUT A PAGE OF THIS NOTEBOOK AT ANYTIME!!!!!!!
· Number the pages in blue or black ink-no pencil!
· Number the pages on the bottom right hand corner for odd numbers and the bottom left hand corner for even numbers
· All right side pages will be odd numbers, all left-side pages will be even numbers-double check this once you have finished and correct any mistakes.
Tuesday, August 13-Tonight you will tape the handout pages I gave you during class into your science notebook. You should trim the pages with scissors to make them fit your notebook. No notebook should have handout pages that hang over the edge of the notebook page itself.
Directions:
· Trim hand out pages # 1-8 with scissors (be sure to place them in order of their numbers). Tape each into the corresponding page in your notebook.
· Read each page and highlight, color, and underline key points.
· Write down any questions you have on sticky notes and come to class tomorrow prepared to discuss the topics of each page. ·
There should be no loose pages and nothing should be hanging over the pages of the notebook itself. It must pass the “shake test” tomorrow.
*Your homework grade will be based on all pages being cut, trimmed, and taped onto the corresponding page in the interactive notebook. Each page must include key components being outlined in some way. You must also have at least 2 questions about the pages written out.
Wednesday, August 14- Create a cover page on page 9 (right side) for the first unit.
Directions:
· You will write the unit title very large on page nine, so that it is easy to read.
· Draw a minimum of three pictures that represent the title for the unit-you may print pictures and paste them onto the page
(You may want to look at pictures in your text to get ideas).
· Color the entire page, corner to corner, using crayons or colored pencils (never use markers in this notebook).
Thursday, August 15-Tonight’s homework has three parts:
Directions:
· Develop at least three other questions you might have about this unit. They can be class oriented or something personal you would like to learn
in the upcoming unit. Each question should be written on an individual sticky note, and you should be prepared to share it in class tomorrow.
· Next, you will draw a picture in the center of the two AHA Connections pages and write the main unit question inside the picture.
· You will now need to complete the Interactive Visual handout on page five of your notebook. You should place a current picture of yourself on
this page. Be creative-you could put your face on a magazine picture cut-out body, or create flip pages of yourself making faces. You can do anything you
want as long as the picture reflects your current grade level.
Friday, August 16-Thank you for your hard work this week. Next week we will begin filling our notebook with our science learning experiences. So, have some fun this weekend, get some rest, and do something to show your parents how much you appreciate them. We will continue our journey into the incredible world of science on Monday!
